Into A River
The project aims to invite individuals from different cultures and communities to collaborate. I provide instruction in using pins and threads to create artworks on canvas and record their immigrant stories. While encouraging participants to let creativity flow unconsciously, follow their heart, emotions, and feelings during the process, some of them have described breakthrough moments, reflecting the transformative journey of immigrants.
These individual pieces are collected and installed with my photographs to form a river-like arrangement, symbolizing the collective immigrant experience in Canada. In our multicultural society, this project celebrates the diversity and the myriad of stories that make up our unique community, in Canada. As thread are meticulously layered, they gradually evolve into intricate three-dimensional art pieces, illustrating the richness within each individual. When these pieces unite, they create a vibrant, colourful, and diverse community.
