The West Vancouver Art Museum is proud to present the work of Xiangmei Su and Jiangang Su, two accomplished artists originally from Suzhou, China, who now call British Columbia home. Drawing from the rich cultural traditions of their birthplace, both artists bring masterful techniques—Su in textile-based installation and Jiangang in ink wash painting—to explore the intricate connections between place, memory, and cultural identity.

Xiangmei Su’s work reflects a deeply personal response to cross-cultural experience. "Having lived in Vancouver for over 20 years, Xiangmei Su’s work reflects the personal challenges and triumphs of immigration—navigating the spaces between two cultures, Chinese and Canadian culture, seeking balance, and ultimately finding her voice. In her early Interweave series, she meticulously examines the intersections of diverse cultures with distinct lines of longitude and latitude. Over time, her work has evolved to transcend boundaries, dissolving them to create seamless integrations of elements. With thread as her artistic tool, it not only binds cultures but also reveals her personal journey of inner exploration."
