Linescape

Linescape explores the idea of home as an evolving inner landscape. Rather than depicting a specific place, the series brings together memories of my hometown of Suzhou and my life in Vancouver, allowing two distinct geographies to merge into an imagined landscape shaped by migration, memory, and lived experience.

 

Each work is constructed through thousands of threads carefully wrapped around individually placed pins. The slow, repetitive process reflects a way of thinking through making, allowing lines to accumulate into layered fields that evoke waterways, shifting horizons, and remembered places. Inspired by the waterways of Suzhou, the mountains and shoreline of Vancouver, and the enduring influence of textile traditions, the thread becomes a visual language that maps emotional rather than physical terrain.

 

For me, Linescape is not about representing landscape—it is about reconstructing home. Existing between reality and imagination, the works reflect how memory reshapes place over time, revealing home not as a fixed location but as something continually woven through experience, movement, and belonging.
