Interweaving II

Delving into my family’s tradition of weaving, which has been passed down through many generations, I have seamlessly interwoven this legacy into my contemporary art practice. Within this art installation, an old suitcase that once belonged to my mother stores the treasured fabric woven by my great-grandmother, grandmother, and mother. The vibrant green thread that traces my ancestral roots back to Suzhou etches a path across the map of Great Vancouver, and eventually forges a new space. This journey mirrors my own experience as a new immigrant in Canada. I have broken through boundaries, traveled through space and time,  and ultimately discovered my new transcultural identity. Each fiber and twist in the thread tells the intricate story of my transformation, connecting the threads of my heritage to the canvas of my contemporary art practice.
